Gregory J. Hart, 84, of LaGrange, Ind. died Friday, September 29, 2017 at Life Care Center of LaGrange.

Mr. Hart was born on July 2, 1933 in Sturgis, Mich. to Otis Stanley and Virginia (Maybee) Hart.

Living most of his lifetime in LaGrange County, he was a printing press operator for Sturgis Newport and had owned Hart’s Plumbing and Heating. For many years he was the plant manager for the waste water treatment center for the town of LaGrange.

Greg was a volunteer fireman with the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department for 39 years and had served as fire chief. He loved to travel especially taking trips on his motorcycle. He liked to fly and had his pilot’s license for many years. He enjoyed being a square dancer and was a member of the civil defense.

On July 23, 1982 in Angola, Ind. he married Mary L. Smurr; Mrs. Hart preceded him in death on August 24, 2010.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Hart-Fry and Dale Fry of LaGrange, Ind.; a son and his fiancÚ, Bret Hart and Lindy Goetz of LaGrange, Ind.; two step-daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Hedl of Walkerton, Ind. and Barbara and Steve Parsons of Kendallville, Ind.; three step-sons and a step-daughter-in-law, Steve Scott of Burr Oak, Mich., Randall “Lumpy” Scott of LaGrange, Ind., and Carl II and Denise Scott of LaGrange, Ind.; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Vivian Virginia and Paul Philippe of Bartlesville, Okla. and Carol Haviland of LaGrange, Ind.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Delmer Hart and Brian Hart.

According to Greg’s wishes, cremation will take place. Burial of his ashes will be done at a later date privately at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Ind.

Memorials may be made to American Red Cross.
