Virginia C. McKibben, 87, of Seneca, SC and formerly of LaGrange, IN died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Lila Doyle Nursing Care facility, Greenville Hospital System / Oconee Medical Center in Seneca, SC.

Mrs. McKibben was born December 31, 1929, in Fairmount, IN to Leslie and Mary (Young) Wilbern; they preceded her in death.

In 1971, she moved from Bunker Hill to LaGrange, IN where she lived until moving to Seneca, SC in 2011. Mrs. McKibben was an elementary school teacher for many years, retiring from Lakeland School Corporation where she taught at Wolcott-Mills Elementary School in Wolcottville, IN.

Virginia was an active member of the LaGrange First United Methodist Church in LaGrange where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and the church choir. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the LaGrange County Retired Teachers Association. In South Carolina, she was an active member of Eternal Shepherd Lutheran Church, and briefly sang in the church choir.

On December 31, 1948 in Huntington, IN she married James V. McKibben, Jr.; Mr. McKibben preceded her in death on December 3, 2006.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James V. III and Jody McKibben of Seneca, SC and Mark and Michelle McKibben of Durango, CO; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Celebration Luncheon will be held in honor of Virginia McKibben’s life on October 14, 2017 from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at the LaGrange First United Methodist Church, 209 W. Spring St., LaGrange, IN.

The family would like to thank both Lila Doyle and Hospice of The Foothills for their excellent care and consistent support during the final months of their Mother’s life.

Burial will take place privately at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, IN.

Memorials may be made to the LaGrange First United Methodist Church choir.
